Hernia disease is another very common general surgery problem. This disease process can range from small straight forward hernias to more complex larger hernias. Oftentimes people think of hernias as bulges but in actuality a hernia is a hole or defect somewhere in the body that shouldn’t be there. The goal of hernia surgery is to repair that defect. For hernia surgery, a robotic approach is especially useful and allows for better and more sustainable hernia repairs than other approaches.
Common hernia types included inguinal or groin hernias and umbilical or belly button hernias. Other hernia types include ventral, spigelian, and incisional hernia.
